GLAAD Urges Increased Support for ENDA after Defamatory Washington Times Editorial
Last Friday, The Washington Times published an editorial entitled “Discrimination is Necessary” that advocated for discrimination against LGBT people.
The editorial, which referred to LGBT people as “weirdos”, targeted the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)–a policy that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The paper also said that transgender people are unfit to teach children and resorted to using offensive slurs and unfounded arguments to defame the group.. It also misrepresented the bill that would create more fair workplaces and a more equal society.

Transgender student slashed in campus restroom
Police are asking for the public's help in finding whoever attacked a transgender student on the California State University, Long Beach campus last week.
University spokesman Rick Gloady said Friday the victim was approached by a man inside a restroom in a campus building the evening of April 15. The suspect said a first name and asked the student if he was that person.
When the student replied that he was, Gloady says the suspect pulled the student's T-shirt over his head, pushed him into the stall and used a sharp object to slash the student's chest. The suspect then fled the area.

The Underside of a Film Festival, Where Some Dark Treasures Dwell
“Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives” and “Spork” belong to a peculiarly American genre, the politically correct comedy of inclusion. Israel Luna’s “Trannies” earned some prefestival publicity when the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said the film was misleading and exploitative and called for it to be withdrawn. It’s hard to argue with “exploitative,” given that the film is quite consciously a Quentin Tarantino-style, mock-exploitation exercise complete with scratchy reel changes. The banter among the transgender heroines is funny; the lurid revenge-fantasy violence, not so much.
