Em Portugal, quando da inclusão da orientação sexual na Constituição, também o problema foi a população transgénero. No entanto, a reacção das associações LGBT norte-americanas é substancialmente diferente da que se viu por terras lusas, onde as associações existentes na altura, e que tiveram um papel relevante, não tiveram problema nenhum em deixar cair o T.
