There's no question gay and lesbian couples face a lot of obstacles on their way to the altar.
However there are others whose journey is even more intriguing.
Meet Alex Compton and Erin Monell.
Alex, with his neatly trimmed beard and close-cropped hair, is a man in every sense -- except on his birth certificate.
Therein lies the issue.
Alex is a transgendered woman, who transitioned in 2006. Legally, Alex is a woman. So is Erin. That put marriage outside their reach, until now.
They will get married Sept. 9.
