TV review: ‘Becoming Chaz’ on OWN — Chastity Bono’s emotional transformation
In the stirring yet unsatisfying documentary “Becoming Chaz,” which airs Tuesday night on OWN, a Los Angeles woman who has lived a life of relative despair (including the death of a lover, the stillbirth of a singing career and a struggle with painkiller addiction) can only truly heal herself by becoming himself. We follow Chaz Bono through a significant part of the process that took place in 2010, including hormone treatments and the surgical removal of his breasts.

May 10, 1933
Dr.Magnus Hirschfeld in 1919 founded the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (Institute for Sexual Research) in Berlin. It became renowned not only for its immense library collection, it also provided medical consultations, treatment and educational services for the 20,000 people a year who visited it.
In addition to it's research, the institute treated STD's, advocated for sex education and contraception and the human rights and social acceptance of gay and trans people
The Institute was also doing pioneering research on trans people. Some of the first trans surgeries were performed in the early 1930s under its auspices. Trans people were on its staff and part of its clientèle. Dr. Harry Benjamin, who would later expand on trans concepts he would learn there in the United States was a colleague of Dr. Hirschfeld.

Action Alert: Texas Legislature Mulls Voiding Marriages, And One In Particular
Texas law allows transsexual and intersex individuals to get married upon the presentation of a court order recognizing sex reassignment.
This change honors the self-identification rather than basing access to marriage licenses on sex assigned at birth. The Texas Senate is considering Senate Bill 723 to prevent district clerks from accepting the court order recognizing a sex change.

Transgender Issues Get Their Day in the Sun in Albany
During the Equality and Justice Day rally in Albany, marriage equality was the issue on many people's minds. It's the LGBT debate with the most national traction in headlines and financial support on both sides of the issue. But as the hundreds of advocates rallied on the lawn in front of the state house began chanting and waving placards, the first phrase of that familiar protest singsong was: "What do we want? GENDA! When do we want it? Now!" GENDA is the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act, a bill that would protect transgender people in employment, housing, services and public accommodations.
