Today, 24th October 2015, is the International Day of Action for Trans Depathologization, the Grupo Transexual Portugal adds its voice to Transgender Europe urging the World Health Organization and governments to ensure that gender diverse children are not labeled patients.

These diagnostics counters the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states: ". In all actions concerning children [...] the best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration" States must protect the child’s best interest in all its actions. When it comes to the best interests of a gender-variant child, primary consideration should be given to whether a particular suggested action or decision has the potential to harm these children.

The European Parliament has also spoken against diagnosis. In September 2015, it "call(ed) on the Commission to intensify efforts to prevent gender variance in childhood from becoming a new diagnosis in the ICD,"

Diagnostics are not medically necessary, but expose children to the label of "sick" when trying to explore and develop their personalities. They are also used to justify abusive "reparative" therapies harmful to children.

Gender variations do not need correction. Children need stigma free environments and support to develop in young confidentpeople , not only medical treatments.

It was expected in Portugal, now that there is no longer one lonely independent T voice, a union around these themes. However, events continue to be organized not directed exclusively to T rights struggle, but also targeted self advertising in order to highlight that "we" (association /group) are the "ones" T supporters, the others mean nothing.

The Grupo Transexual Portugal does not associates itself with these types of careerism, therefore it does not participate (as GTP) in such events. Thus, we remember here (in video) a claim made by GTP in collaboration with the Pink Panthers in 2012, when at the time the GTP was the only independent T voice.
